Expert work in human rights and international protection

My professional activity includes not only litigation, but also analytical, teaching, and expert work in the field of human rights, international protection, and the interaction between individuals and the state.

For many years, I have analysed the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights, international protection mechanisms, and the legal consequences of decisions by state authorities — both domestically and in the international context.

Publications on international law, human rights, and ECtHR case-law

I am the author of publications on international law, human rights, ECtHR case-law, constitutional matters, and the interaction between individuals and the state in leading Russian legal journals.

Selected publications include:

A special place in my work is dedicated to analysing how citizens interact with the state, including the publication “The most massive claim in Russia’s history” (Advokatskaya Ulitsa).
Media commentary

I regularly provide expert commentary as a human rights lawyer for Russian and international media on: human rights and international protection, the work of human-rights organisations, the consequences of decisions by state authorities, and ECtHR practice.

My comments and interviews have appeared, among others, in the BBC, The New York Times, and The Washington Post, as well as in Russian independent media and human-rights outlets.
Teaching and lectures on international human-rights protection

I have been invited as a lecturer on international human-rights protection and ECtHR practice at Russian and foreign universities.

In different years, I have collaborated with:
  • Harvard Law School and the University of Arizona — as an external consultant on international human-rights protection
  • Moscow State University — lectures on the right to a fair trial in ECtHR case-law
  • HSE University (Higher School of Economics) — lectures and seminars on international human-rights mechanisms
  • RUDN University — participation in professional development programmes for lawyers.

My teaching work has been linked to analysing case-law, international standards, and the limits of their application in national legal systems.

Public education and analysis of ECtHR practice

I have also been involved in public education aimed at explaining ECtHR practice and international protection mechanisms, including through seminars and lectures, participation in public discussions, and the creation of analytical and educational materials.

I also ran a professional blog and author online projects dedicated to ECtHR practice and international law.
How expert work supports my practice

My expert, analytical, and teaching experience directly informs practical work on: international human-rights protection, archival cases on Soviet repression, and disputes with state authorities.

This is why, in my work, I place special emphasis on an honest case assessment, risk analysis, and a clear explanation of legal constraints.
